Will You Marry Me?

We had the amazing opportunity to be a part of a surprise proposal —

Our eager groom-to-be got down on one knee and asked the love of his life for her hand in marriage, while overlooking  a lit up skyline of New York City from the hills of Montclair, NJ.

We, your trusted photographers, hid in the bushes.

Our best wishes for our happy newly engaged couple!  Congrats!

Finishing in 7th —

This happy blogger once wanted to be a race car driver — what did you want to be when you were a kid? Are you doing that now?

“In 1986, Marlboro increased its auto racing involvement,
sponsoring its first Indy Car entry . The Marlboro #20 March 86C,
prepared by Patrick Racing, was driven by two-time Formula One
World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi . Marlboro was Fittipaldi’s
sponsor in 1974 when he won his second Formula One World Title
with the Marlboro McLaren Team . Fittipaldi won his first Indy
Car race for Marlboro at Elkhart Lake .” –http://legacy.library.ucsf.edu/documentStore/w/o/o/woo48c00/Swoo48c00.pdf

Ektachromes

We’ve been doing some spring cleaning!  We opened our drawers, filing cabinets and trunks and started going through some old film, slides and negatives from back in the day when there were no digital cameras, and definitely no photoshop!

Ektachrome is a brand name owned by Kodak for a range of transparency, still, and motion picture films available in most formats, including 35 mm and sheet sizes to 11×14 inch size.  Ektachrome, initially developed in the early 1940s, allowed professionals and amateurs alike to process their own films. It also made color reversal film more practical in larger formats, and the Kodachrome Professional film in sheet sizes was later discontinued.   –Wikipedia

aaaand….ACTION!

We’ve been keeping ourselves busy these last few weeks!

In between photographing Christmas cards in June and Amusement Parks in September for next summer season, we took another step into the wonderful world of videography.  Here, we are on set for a TV commercial to be aired nationwide.

There is a great deal of skilled people and a highly creative set of minds that go into advertising.   On any given shoot, you have the Director, Videographer, Client, Copywriter, Sound Guy, Grip, Talent, Hair and Wardrobe Stylists, Set Stylists, Extra Hands… and that’s just to name a few.
20130917_124812BOGWhy is our actress standing in front of a giant green screen?  It is for movie magic in the making.  With a green screen, you are able to put your subject in whatever environment you choose.  She could be standing on a beach in Jamaica, or in the middle of the Kentucky Derby!

We will keep you posted on more of our adventures… in the meantime.. stay creative!

Get Real!

Grounds For Sculpture

Grounds For Sculpture

Optical illusion? Or reality? We weren’t quite sure last Friday when we visited the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. What an amazing experience – amidst 43 acres of cultivated gardens we came upon life size “people” making love, picnicking in the nude – OMG – we didn’t know if we were interrupting an intimate moment or viewing the most prolific sculptor of the 21st century.

Whew…they weren’t living – Seward Johnson fooled us all with his mimicry of 19th century painter Edouard Manet’s works. Imagine, walking around a wall of cypress bushes and there is the 3-D version of paintings we learned about in art history class.

This is just one of many scenes “stolen” from the great masters.

Wonder what Manet would say if he saw his oils whimsically recreated into a real scene with bushes, water and seemingly “alive” but actually stone cold life size bronzes?

So here’s the gist – Manet painted in a 2-D Medium – fabulous – Johnson made it 3-D – haha – now we transformed it into a new 2-D format with the digital camera 150 years after Manet’s initial concept. Question – is this a portrait of friends in the woods like we show in our People Portfolio – or is it merely a fantasy – an optical illusion? A theft?

You decide.

Another thought:

Are we being a voyeur by watching these two?

Use Your Hands to Make Money

Hand Modeling

Did you ever wonder who spreads I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter on that fresh blueberry muffin? Or who swipes the newest iPad to advertise its brilliant features? In other words, modeling isn’t just for the face. There are many models who earn a good living just using their hands to advertise products, both in print and film.

At Bohm-Marrazzo Photography, we’ve photographed many national consumer ads that needed a “hand” to humanize the product. But, this photograph was a comp shot for an aspiring hand model, not for the watch. This man is hoping that he gets the next iPad ad.

In order to be a hand model, you have to have a good looking hand. Then, it’s necessary to keep that good looking hand smooth and unblemished with clean nails that are evenly shaped. A little different for the women – fashion models have different looking hands than commercial models. A hand that’s advertising a toilet bowl cleaner is not going to have the same look as a hand that’s advertising a $50,000 diamond ring.

Hand models must be able to move gracefully and keep a relaxed pose, no matter how long it takes to get the shot… and sometimes that means hours! Scars? Skin discolorations? Bitten nails? Maybe think about a different career. Clearly, being a parts model – or what we call in advertising photography “anatomical modeling” – is not as easy as it looks!

Another tip…Protection! Remember that funny episode in Seinfeld when George Costanza’s hands get noticed for being soft and milky white? He starts wearing oven mits to preserve his possible hand modeling career and finds out it’s no easy task to keep your hands looking perfect.

But hey, no matter what your special talent may be, go for it – it’s always good to aim for the upper hand.

And if you need a comp card for your hands, or anything else, contact www.marrazzomorgan.com.

On Pointe

The New Jersey Ballet

Toes pointedTummy engaged. Back straight. Shoulders relaxedBottom tuckedLong neck…And this is why dancing is a fine art form.

The list of details to remember in ballet can go on and on, but it’s the way these details come together that really makes the magic happen. No matter what you’re doing, attention to detail must not be ignored. In photography, elements like texture, angle, depth of field, lighting, and pattern all join in to capture the perfect shot. Let’s take this image, for example. If you want to emphasize the shape of the ballerina’s feet, you might take an angle that shows the arch of her foot by the straight line of the stage floor. That way, you can wow your audience just as much as The NJ Ballet.

It’s all about what you’re trying to say

So, stay On Pointe!

Yummmmm…

Food can be art too!

This photo was taken for the North Jersey chapter of Slow Food USA, a movement that encourages consumers to buy locally grown food. Depicting the importance of staying fresh, the plates here are made from palm leaves– how fitting? Needless to say, this photo shoot was both intriguing and delicious for everyone on set!

Here’s a recipe for Italian Dumplings so you can try this dish yourself!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
6 tablespoons margarine
3 (10 ounce) packages frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
2 eggs, beaten
3 quarts water
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules

Directions:

1 In a skillet, saute onion in butter till tender.
2 Add spinach, cook and stir over medium heat until liquid has evaporated, about 5 minutes.
3 Stir in ricotta; cook and stir for 3 minutes.
4 Transfer to a large bowl.
5 Add 3/4 cup of flour, Parmesan cheese and garlic salt.
6 Cool for 5 minutes.
7 Stir in eggs; mix well.
8 Place remaining flour in a bowl.
9 Drop batter by tabelspoonfuls into flour; roll gently to coat and shape each into an oval.
10 In a large saucepan; bring water and bouillion to a boil-reduce heat.
11 Add a third of the dumplings at a time, simmer, uncovered for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a dumpling comes out clean.
12 Remove from the liquid with a slotted spoon; keep warm.
13 Drizzle with butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
