Texture and Color

Texture and color palette are both important elements of composing a photograph. The combination of texture and color palette can be  what makes an image. For example, this photograph taken for Exquisicat cat litter packaging is successful because of the monochromatic color scheme that contrasts with the bright colors of the box. Also, the complimentary textures of the blanket and the cats fur are aesthetically pleasing.

Things to consider:

  • Color schemes to try:  Complimentary, analogous, triadic, and yes, even monochromatic color schemes have their place!
  • Texture combinations:  Using different textures in combination with one another can create interesting visual patterns and enhance different parts of the image.
  •  Synchronize these two: Using a busy patterned texture  with monochromatic colors works well, whereas these textures with bright and varying colors may be too overwhelming and distracting. Pair these elements with care to create a successful image.

Happy Shooting.

Photographing Kids and Animals

W. C. Fields once said “Never work with kids or animals.” Here at Bohm-Marrazzo Photography, we disagree. We work with children and animals on a regular basis because we enjoy it! Don’t be fooled, working with kids and animals is not easy. As fun and warm-hearted people, it’s a natural ability for Linda Bohm and Gerry Marrazzo to be so well-versed in animal training and child wrangling. The combination of photographic expertise and psychology allows for the capture of perfect expressions and poses on those two or four-legged subjects.

Here are some basic tips for photographing, the sometimes hard to manage subjects of animals and children:

  • Patience is a virtue. As obvious as this may sound, it can be easy to lose patience when trying to get a subject who doesn’t understand you to do what you want.
  • Reward them! When using food or toys to get the attention of an animal or kid, allow them to get a little taste or get their hands (or paws) on that toy for a moment to maintain their interest.
  • Mi studio es su casa. Make them feel at home. Creating a comfortable environment where you’re shooting helps to take some stress of the subject.
  • Minimize distractions. Only one person should be trying to get the attention of the subject. When multiple people are calling or waving toys and treats, the animal or kid doesn’t know who to look at creating confusion.
  • Give them (and yourself) a break. If things aren’t going so smoothly and your subject is getting antsy, let them take a few minutes to relax off set.

Happy Shooting!

Put ‘Em Up!

As the Italian Stallion Rocky Balboa once said, “it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Claressa Shields, 17 year old American Boxing Olympic hopeful is an inspiration to our “Riplee Shields” who has gone undefeated in all her matches. It must be those hand-made gloves
that Linda Bohm crafted just for her. She takes on every opponent, even if they are twice her size. This image was shot for Splash News to show the world that there are gold medal winners in every species.

Stay tuned to find out about more Animal Olympic Medalists!

Agility

Cat Agility – that’s what you do when your MACH dogs are too old to run.
My 5 month old Somali Pippi placed FIRST Saturday against the top agility cats coming from Cali, Oregon, Va and Ohio at a huge regional cat show in Pa. This was our first competition and I never expected to win and secure two agility titles for her.We made history as the first Somali ever to place first and earn two titles. And this is only the beginning!
