Texture and Color

Texture and color palette are both important elements of composing a photograph. The combination of texture and color palette can be  what makes an image. For example, this photograph taken for Exquisicat cat litter packaging is successful because of the monochromatic color scheme that contrasts with the bright colors of the box. Also, the complimentary textures of the blanket and the cats fur are aesthetically pleasing.

Things to consider:

  • Color schemes to try:¬†¬†Complimentary,¬†analogous, triadic, and yes, even monochromatic color schemes have their place!
  • Texture combinations:¬† Using different textures in combination with one another can create interesting visual patterns and enhance different parts of the image.
  • ¬†Synchronize these two:¬†Using a busy patterned texture ¬†with monochromatic colors works well, whereas these textures with bright and varying colors may be too overwhelming and distracting. Pair these elements with care to create a successful image.

Happy Shooting.

Headshots are Important…for Everyone!

Just as headshots can be crucial for people with jobs in modeling, acting, or even business; headshots are just as important for animals seeking work!¬†One of the most basic steps in getting your animal into advertising photo shoots is to get them a great head shot. The better their photograph looks, the more likely they are to get chosen by the art director of the job. A photograph with good lighting that shows the animal’s face and body is a good bet. We photographed our friend Ilson’s (owner of Samba Restaurant in Montclair)¬†Boston Terrier, Bella. The image shows her fit body stature and lovable face.

Who could say no to casting that face?

Time Travel

There are a few things in this world that can take you out of the space around you and bring you to another time and place. What’s our favorite way to time travel?

Books! Spend some quality time with your favorite book and your couch. Escape the summer heat and go somewhere cool.

Hitchhike to Alaska with Christopher McCandless. Or travel to the magical Narnia with the Pevensies. And not to mention you’ll still be home for dinner tonight.

(Reading is this Afghan,¬†Usa’s¬†favorite way to time travel, too!)

Gecko Portrait Photography Tips

We’ve all seen the Geico Gecko commercials. However, in real life Gecko’s are not quite so charismatic. They take some work to get their portrait! This gecko seen in Bermuda was a great model, (who has likely had some freelance experience modeling for tourists).
Image
Don’t fret! You can get a great Gecko portrait too! Here’s how:
  1. Don’t worry about a gecko blinking while taking the photo. Most geckos don‚Äôt have eyelids and therefore never blink!
  2. Don’t pose your Gecko subject on anything made of Teflon. It’s the only known surface a gecko‚Äôs feet can‚Äôt stick to so your model will be sliding all over.
  3. Gecko’s are the only lizards that can vocalize! So don’t be afraid to talk to them while they strut their stuff, they can talk back!
  4. Try to choose a sunny location for your Gecko supermodel. They are coldblooded and need the sun to stay warm!

Happy Shooting!
