Love Ya Like a Sister

A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves – a special kind of double.  ~Toni Morrison

Not only do human sisters share a special bond, but animal sisters do too! Sisters don’t always have to agree on things. They don’t have to get along all the time. And many times sisters look nothing alike! However, that doesn’t change the type of friendship that sisterhood brings. As they bond sitting side by side, you can see these Afghan Hound sisters Aquina and Tish have very different looks. Although they are unique in appearance, they are both beautiful.

These Afghan hound sisters belong to our friend Diane Bauman.

Happy Friday. :]

It’s All About ATTITUDE

Winston Churchill once said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” Winston was right, in more than one way! Attitude is important not only in how you live your life, but also in how you take someone’s portrait. The attitude of your subject plays a major role in the over all atmosphere of the image. Therefore it is of dire importance to capture your subject in such a way that their attitude shines through.

The attitude that you catch your subject in also depends on the mood you are trying to convey with your photograph. Timing is everything. Catching that one facial expression, be it smile or scowl, is what makes the picture.

However, this doesn’t just go for portraits of people. Animals have attitudes, too!
Those of which Linda Bohm and Gerry Marrazzo are unparalleled in capturing.
As you can see, the expression caught on Pippi’s face shows her fierce “CAT-itude!”

Remember, attitude is everything!

Photographing Kids and Animals

W. C. Fields once said “Never work with kids or animals.” Here at Bohm-Marrazzo Photography, we disagree. We work with children and animals on a regular basis because we enjoy it! Don’t be fooled, working with kids and animals is not easy. As fun and warm-hearted people, it’s a natural ability for Linda Bohm and Gerry Marrazzo to be so well-versed in animal training and child wrangling. The combination of photographic expertise and psychology allows for the capture of perfect expressions and poses on those two or four-legged subjects.

Here are some basic tips for photographing, the sometimes hard to manage subjects of animals and children:

  • Patience is a virtue. As obvious as this may sound, it can be easy to lose patience when trying to get a subject who doesn’t understand you to do what you want.
  • Reward them! When using food or toys to get the attention of an animal or kid, allow them to get a little taste or get their hands (or paws) on that toy for a moment to maintain their interest.
  • Mi studio es su casa. Make them feel at home. Creating a comfortable environment where you’re shooting helps to take some stress of the subject.
  • Minimize distractions. Only one person should be trying to get the attention of the subject. When multiple people are calling or waving toys and treats, the animal or kid doesn’t know who to look at creating confusion.
  • Give them (and yourself) a break. If things aren’t going so smoothly and your subject is getting antsy, let them take a few minutes to relax off set.

Happy Shooting!

Afghan Hounds Are Smarter Than You Think!

According to Stanley Coren’s The Intelligence of Dogs, the Afghan Hound is the least intelligent dog of the 110 breeds that were ranked. Sorry Mr. Coren, we (and these adorable Afghan puppies) beg to differ.

These precious Afghan Hound puppies are merely 8 weeks old. They are already being trained by their co-owner, world-renowned trainer Diane Bauman and learning fast! Despite where Stanley Coren
ranks Afghan’s in his intelligence scale, you can see for yourself how smart these dogs really are.

Our friend Diane Bauman is now looking for performance homes for some of these pups. They’re far too smart to just sit there and look pretty!
Let us know if you are interested and we can lead you in the right direction.

Your Pet Ought to be in Pictures!

Packaging photography can be a lot of fun when working with adorable furry models!

At the Cat Expo this past weekend Bohm-Marrazzo Photography had a booth with some of the packages we did the photography for and some

information on how you can get your pet into pictures.

Read on to find out more!

How to get your pet into advertising…

  1. Lights, Camera, Action! Take lots of photos of your pet so they get comfortable with the flash!
  2. Your four-legged friend should feel at home…everywhere. When your pet is young bring them out to mingle with other people and pets in various environments so they will feel comfortable in new places.
  3. It’s all about training. Your pet should be trained to sit and stay and hold a pose. Tricks and agility are always bonuses.
  4. Submit the best of the best. When sending in photos of your pet for casting opportunities make sure you send the best, well lit photographs because the better the photo the more likely they will make the cut.
  5. Ready for their close up? Keep your pet in shape and healthy to increase their chances of getting chosen for the job.
  6. Contact us! Send in your photos and information about your pet to casting@bohm-marrazzo.com if you think your pet has what it takes. If we think your pet is a future superstar we’ll contact you back!

BABY BONANZA

This week has literally been BABY MANIA!

We are shooting a NJ local cable TV commercial – featuring BABIES!

For the past few days, and for the rest of the week, we have not only been looking at photos of these pudgy little monsters but also meeting them in the studio to take some updated photos and meet them in person..

All of the gooby smiles and baby soft skin make it worth the countless diaper changes in our waiting room!

Some helpful hints to help deal with a room full of babies on shoot day?

1.  Bubbles! Who doesn’t love them – They calm the nervous parent and amuse the little bums!

2. Peek-a-boo!  Wait, where did you just come from!?!

3. Laughing ! These babies need to know that they aren’t the doctors office getting a shot – so have fun! Be silly! Make ridiculous faces! Make some noises! Be a kid again!

Photos soon to follow

I think it’s time we all take a nap! 🙂
